Abstract guidelines

Instructions for preparing and submitting abstracts to 31st ISL — World Congress of Lymphology.

Congress 15th to 18th September 2027
Word limit 250–300 words (body)
Format Structured IMRaD · English

Read each section before submitting. Deadlines and final word limits will be confirmed by the scientific committee and updated on this page.

01 Scope & eligibility

We invite original research, clinical series, case reports, educational reviews, and quality-improvement work relevant to lymphology, lymphedema, lymphatic imaging, surgery, rehabilitation, oncology interfaces, and allied basic science.

  • At least one presenting author must register for the congress and attend as required by the secretariat.
  • Work previously published or presented elsewhere must be declared; substantially novel data or analysis is expected.
  • Submissions from trainees and early-career investigators are encouraged.

02 Presentation categories

  • Oral presentation — selected abstracts for podium sessions.
  • E-poster / poster display — visual summary at poster sessions.
  • Special categories — workshops, imaging, surgery, or nursing/therapy tracks where designated.

The scientific committee assigns the final presentation format. Oral presentation cannot be guaranteed on request.

03 Abstract structure

Abstracts must be submitted in English and follow IMRaD unless clearly marked as review or case report:

Title
Concise and informative; avoid unexplained abbreviations.
Authors
Full names, degrees, affiliations; identify presenting and corresponding author.
Background
Brief context and study rationale.
Objectives
Clear aim or hypothesis.
Methods
Design, population, interventions, outcomes, statistics.
Results
Main findings with key data — not “results will be presented”.
Conclusion
Take-home message supported by the data.

04 Formatting & limits

  • Word limit: typically 250–300 words for the structured body (title and authors excluded unless stated on the portal).
  • Tables & figures: not in the abstract text unless the portal allows one supplementary figure.
  • References: usually omitted; maximum three if essential.
  • Language: proofread scientific English before submission.

05 Ethics & registration

  • Human studies: Declaration of Helsinki; ethics approval number where applicable.
  • Informed consent and confidentiality for case reports.
  • Clinical trials registered on approved registries when mandatory.
  • Animal studies: institutional approval; ARRIVE or equivalent standards.

06 Conflict of interest & funding

All authors must disclose financial relationships, grants, and potential conflicts on the submission form. State funding sources and the sponsor’s role in study design, analysis, and publication.

07 Review process

Abstracts undergo peer review for scientific merit, clarity, relevance to lymphology, methodological quality, and programme fit. Acceptance, presentation type, and scheduling are communicated by email to the corresponding author.

08 Submission instructions

  • Submit only through the official congress portal or secretariat channel.
  • One abstract per submission; avoid duplicate reporting of the same study.
  • Verify author names, affiliations, and spelling before final submission.
  • Keep a copy of your abstract and confirmation receipt.

09 After acceptance

  • Presenting authors must register by the deadline in the acceptance letter.
  • Oral presenters: follow congress slide specifications (ratio and duration as advised).
  • Poster presenters: follow venue size and mounting instructions.
  • Failure to present without notice may affect future ISL submissions.
